Greasemonkey 0.5.1 Final is available for download.
Special thanks to "t" for reporting a user script escalation issue in the previous beta which has now been fixed.
Other changes:
- Bug 10107 - Allow users to select a script editor. This also allows script editing to work for *nix users.
- Bug 11214 - Clicking "Edit" in Manager loses enable/disable changes
- Bug 11224 - Grease monkey doesn't accept non english characters!
- Bug 11236 - The install context menu won't show if there's a node under the A element

Yeah, I'm getting the misfires as well. ...haven't figured out the pattern quite yet. Such items as WikiProxy and GMail Conversation Preview bubbles work fine on my XPpro desktop under 0.50 and 0.5.1, but no go on XPpro laptop with similar setup.

Define 'repro' for me and I'll see what I can do.
Still broken. Hit and miss (mostly miss) when it comes to re-inserting the script when a page is updated.
Congrats! I love this extension and I love writing scripts for it.
"Repro" means a reproducible case - i.e., the simplest method of reproducing the bug for examination.
Oh! Well, in that case, head on over to linkfilter.net and install the Greasefilter script, at it's config page have it run everything so it'll be obvious if it's working or not. Then go to make a comment somewhere, but open it using middle-click. I'm not using the 0.5.1 anymore so I'm not sure if it misfires without being logged in, you may have to create an account.
Be forewarned, the place is addicting. ;)
Interesting, I turn on logging (with about:config -> greasemonkey.logChrome = true) and Greasemonkey claims it is injecting into linkfilter, even when nothing happens.

WinXP, the context menu has "Install User Script..." right at the top. Can I stick it somewhere else, as I far prefer back to be at the top?

A Greasemonkey icon in a screencap on uber-popular politics blog Wonkette.
Installed the new version of Greasemonkey last night. Cleared out all of the scripts I'd collected and now won't allow me to reinstall any of them or any new ones. Any ideas?
I experience this problem of not firing, when using scripts created by "Platypus".
But after removing the 'function do_platypus_script()' around the commands and the 'window.addEventListener("load", function() { do_platypus_script() }, false);' at the end it always fires.
Maybe this information helps.

stu - Always keep a backup of your scripts directory. I learned that the hard way rolling back to 0.3.5 from the 0.5 beta.
Is the issue that was interfering with Deer Park's bfcache fixed?
I have a problem that sounds like stu's; the Greasemonkey Manage User Scripts window is blank after installing this version. Also, using Install New Script doesn't end up actually adding a script to the scripts directory, or showing up in the Manage User Scripts. As a last resort I tried manually moving the scripts the scripts directory, and they still don't show up, or function, in the browser.
thom, did you manually add a reference in the rdf file as well? GM doesn't just automagically use files dumped into it's scripts directory..
This may not be the right place, but I'm not sure where else to send a quick feature suggestion:
For Windows Users, allow right-clicking of the monkey toggle icon to bring up a context menu ("Install User Script," "Manage User Scripts," "User Script Commands"). Right-clicking any other icon anywhere else in Firefox brings up a context menu. This may seem like a small nitpick, but given the amount of use I get out of GreaseMonkey, this would really save a bit of annoyance.

Regarding not firing, that information about onload does indeed help. I willl look into it.

backing up scripts dir -- yeah you should do that. Greasemonkey is still a little bit less than reliable software.
Don't know if this helps, but two notes:
1) Some scripts don't work in the new version/FireFox 1.06/XP SP2 (most notably Butler, but a handful of others).
2) The "Install User Script" context menu element is always visible. All the time.

I selected by mistake an incorrect editor, and the only way to get rid of it was with about:config. Some users won't get the trick so a low priority task should be to make this more obvious.
I'm having the same problem as Stu. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but still cant install any scripts. I click install and the box pops up with no data in it. Back to 0.3.5
how do you submit user scripts to the GreaseMonkeyUserScripts page?

Lost all of my scripts on the update, went back to 0.3.5 and still cannot use any new scripts or reinstall the old ones. What is going on, how do I get around this?
My suggestion if you have install troubles is to completely uninstall GM, then install the version you want to use. It won't restore those lost scripts, but it might fix the script installation problem.
FF has a tendency to keep some unused outdated files when updating an extension and once in awhile it causes trouble. Or so I'm told.
I am having the same problem as Stu; all scripts gone, new ones won't save. FYI I am also running Platypus (0.51), might there be an issue?
Whoa - wait a minute. Why do I want Install User Script on the context menu when it's available from the Tools menu?
Tools-menu-bloat may be Impolite Extension Misdemeanour #2 but context menu bloat is #1.
I'm quite curious how you'd make the GM interface, Greg. Automatically installing any script the browser displays? Manual installation with the user's OS file management and a text editor?
My Firefox/Windows is crashing since I updated to Greasemonkey 0.5.1-Final. It crashes randomly and I haven't yet found a common pattern.
When I disable Greasemonkey from the extensions menu, the crashing stops. When I turn it on, even with all User Scripts disabled, Firefox starts to crash randomly.
Any tips on how to do a better debugging ?
Does not work with Firefox 1.0.6 on Mac.
